Guss Gathing

Guss “June” Gathing, 79 of Benton Harbor departed his life on July 22, 2023, in St Joseph, MI.

June was born on December 17, 1943, to the union of Isaiah Gathing and Louisiana Blanchard in Aberdeen, MS. He received Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church until becoming ill. He spent most of his career in the industrial field as a laborer.

In his early years he had a love for cars from his big monster truck to riding slick in his black Cadillac with vogues. He also loved playing cards poker, spades and tunk. When it came to cards June hated to lose. He would cheat anyone just to win even his kids. Him and Shele, would always get to fussing about him cheating.

June is survived by his wife Lucy Gathing, along with his children: Pamela (Andre) Golliday, Shawn Tyson, Brian Gathing, Bershele (Mike) Cook, Leticia Gathing, Dana Jenkins, Laron Braxton and his bonus children: Sammy Marlow, Dewan (Candance) Marlow, Nakeda Marlow; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grand children; his brothers, Gene Gathing, Ernest Gathing, Robert Morrow, Houston(Sarah)Morrow, Clarence(Ronita) Morrow, Clifton Morrow, and Henry J Morrow; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the St. Mark Church family. 

June was preceded in death by his parents Isaiah Gathing and Louisiana Blanchard and his sister and brother Amber and Johnnie Morrow.
