Gladys Verlene Buckner departed this life on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 at 6:21 am peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Mother Gladys was born February 8th, 1936 in Hayti, Missouri to the union of Jessie and Rosie Mae Lusk. Gladys was united in Holy matrimony to Leroy Buckner Sr. and to this union, four children were born.
Gladys was employed by Spectrum Health Lakeland for 38 years. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School in 1955. Gladys was an active member of Trinity Church of God in Christ. She gave her life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Superintendent John H. McCoy, Sr. McCoy’s Temple Church of God in Christ #2.
Mother Gladys enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending church. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking for the holidays, and her favorite past-time gardening.
Gladys was an awesome woman of God, her nurturing and loving spirit displayed esteemed character and integrity which made it easy for everyone to love and respect her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Shari Lusk, Cynthia Buckner, one son Timothy Buckner, five grandchildren: Darrell Holiday, Marcas Purnell, Sr. Charnisea Lusk, Remington Buckner, and Bruce Benson. Seven great-grandchildren: Joshua Holiday, Damarion Purnell, Char’Naja Moody, Kaleb Purnell, Serenity Purnell, Santana Moody, one great-great-grandchild Morgan Purnell. Friends: Corrine Jones, Lula Kemp, Betty Burton, and Ophelia Madden. And a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and Rosie Mae Lusk, husband Leroy Buckner, Sr. son Leroy Buckner, Jr. Grandsons: Marcas Purnell Jr. and Devin Williams, 7 brothers, Wilford Lusk, Andrew Lusk, Eddie Lusk, Jessie F. Lusk, Clifton Cornelius, Willie McGee, and Robert Cornelius. 6 sisters: Icie Mae Williams, Bessie Moore, Ruby Smith, Velma Price, Reola Lusk, and Ruth Peterson.
