Gilbert Lee Hipps was born on December 23, 1952, in Swanson, South Carolina to E H and Lessie Hipps. Gilbert relocated to Avon Park, Florida where he graduated in 1970. Gilbert enlisted in the Army in 1971, where he was honorably discharged. He later relocated to Benton Harbor, MI where he worked as contractor. And met his wife, Patricia Ann Hipps.
Gilbert enjoyed cooking bar-b-que, which was the best this side of heaven! Gilbert cherished the time spent time with his children, grandchildren … that’s where he found his most joy! He enjoyed fishing and of course playing the lottery and the scratch offs. Gilbert was a strict ‘old man’ who didn’t take any mess…he said what he meant…and he meant what he said! He found relaxation in painting houses, another of his enjoyable moments.
Cherished and loving memories are left with his children, Skyland Walker, Takia Hipps, Ashley Hipps, Dominek Jackson, Brandon (Whitney) Hipps, Travis Hipps, Gilbert (Skip) Hipps, Nikki Hipps, Angel Harris and Candida Heart. Precious memories are left in the minds of his stepchildren, Darshawn (Ruth) Walker, Tamika Walker, Anthony Walker, Tipton (Theresa) Walker, Christy Walker and Ladona (Tewan) Napier; his brothers, Tommy (Angie) Hipps, Terry (Barbara) Hipps, Perry Hipps, Eddie (Mary Joyce) Hipps, Twon Spurlock, and Marcus Taylor. He also leaves behind his sister in-laws Janice Autery, Tonya Tamplin, Kathryn (Larry) Tyler, Tammy (Kendall) Tamplin; his brother in laws, Timothy (Lenora) Tamplin, and Ricky Gillespie; and a host of grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gilbert joins his beloved wife Patricia Hipps; parents: E. H. and Lessie Hipps; a sister Patsy Hipps; grandchildren Nikkia and Akievianna Hipps, a step-son George Walker, Jr.; a nephew Kenyon Hipps.
