Georgette Lanier, affectionately known as “Cookie”, was born on October 14th, 1970, in Berrien Center, MI to Ernest Lanier and Christine Thomas Lanier. Cookie was the eldest of five children.
Cookie graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1989 and went on to receive a college degree in medical assistant from the National Career Institute in 1993. Cookie later received a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Almeda College and University in 2002. From 2005 to 2007, Cookie was a college instructor and taught courses to medical assistant students at Brown Mackie College. Cookie had a vast knowledge of medical experience, including phlebotomy, triage, and patient care. Cookie was the go-to person for any medical concerns for her family and friends. She was always willing to provide care and comfort.
On January 1, 2017, Cookie went on her first date with her future husband and the love of her life, Marvin L Bruin. They were inseparable since that day and were married on September 3, 2022. Cookie was a warm, encouraging, and supportive wife. For Marvin, she was his happy and not only his wife and the best friend he has ever had.
Cookie was a loving mother and grandmother. She spoke with her daughters every day and adored her grandchildren. Cookie was passionate about protecting her family. Cookie was an excellent cook and there was not any meal that she could not prepare.
Precious memories and the legacy of Cookie will forever live on in the hearts of: Marvin L Bruin (husband), Ernest Lanier (father), Christine Thomas (mother), her daughters: Crystal Winfield, and Jasmond (Maurice Bridges) Moore, bonus daughter: Courtnee Bruin, sister: Shaunda (Eric) Williams brothers : Ernest Lanier, Carneil (Michelle) Malone, Aaron (Rachelle) Malone, and Kenneth (Keisha) Sindle, grandsons: Paul (PJ) Williams Jr, Terrence (Phat) Winfield, Jermaine (Smook) Brown, Tremayne (Chocolate) Brown, granddaughters: Armoni Bowens and Dior Bridges, Kim (Kaddie) Moore (special niece), Rasta (grand puppy), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
