Florine Porter Obituary

Florine Porter

Celebrating the Life of Florine Porter beloved: daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Surrounded by her family, Florine Porter peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023. Florine was born February 11, 1928, in Water Valley, Mississippi to the late Areaner Taylor-Brown and Amos Brown.

As a teenager, Florine loved cooking, telling jokes, planting flowers, and laughing. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and especially loved family cookouts with Tyrone Davis and R-Kelly music. She was well-loved by many for her soft personality and her laughter. She was well known for her nickname of Madear by many and all. She was the freeze-cup lady and was especially known for her flavorful freeze cups, rice-krispy treats, and popcorn balls.

Florine gave her life to the Lord at a young age. She attended church and had a hand for the tambourine. She sang a few tunes herself and loved music of all kinds. She was a mother not only to her own children but to her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren as well. She shared a special bond with many loved ones.

To cherish her loving memory, she leaves three sons, Charles (Doris) Osby, Elvis Osby, and Jeffrie Porter, all of Michigan. Seven daughters, Betty Ellis, Eva Caldwell, Corinne Taylor, Reaner Gibbs, Sharon (Randall) McMurray all of Michigan, Brenda Hill, and Elane Porter of Arizona. One sister, Joann (Raymond) House, of Arkansas. Four brothers, Theodor (Willia)Brown, Johnny (Kimberly) Brown, both of Arkansas, David (Christine) Brown of Tennessee, and Jim (Sharon) Brown of California.

33 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Florine was preceded in death by son Clinton Porter, brothers, Amos Brown Jr, Leland Brown, Joe Willie Brown, Charles Brown, and Elroy Brown, and sisters Laverne Warren, Joyce Brown Moultrie, Linda Faye Armstrong, Thelma Brown Rayborn, and Betty Brown Gray.

She fought a good long fight, and ran a good race, shared her wisdom, and kept the faith.
