Evelyn Coleman Obituary

Sis. Evelyn Coleman peacefully departed this life on Friday, June 7th at the Hanson House, St. Joseph, Michigan.  A devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, Aunt and friend was born on December 30, 1939, in Louisville, Mississippi to Henry and Francis Robinson.  Sis. Coleman was united in matrimony for 27 years to the late Samuel Coleman, Sr.

Sis. Coleman was proud of her education and received an Associates Degree in Education from Lake Michigan College.   Sis. Coleman was a worker…she was employed for 15 years with Jenos Inc. of Sodus, MI.  She was an elementary teacher-aide with Benton Harbor School System for several years.  She completed her employment as a Foster Grandparent until her health began to decline.  She enjoyed spending her time watching her Criminal Shows (Law and Order) and all of game Shows, especially Steve Harvey with Family Feud….that made her day complete!

Sis. Coleman had a quiet and mischievous humor that would keep you laughing!   She enjoyed a good meal and good friends.   Sis. Evelyn was a member of the Eastern Star Lillian Guild #85 since 1975 and earned the title of Worthy Matron.  Having received Christ Jesus as her personal savior at an early age it was without a second thought that she gave her service to the Church.  She became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and served faithfully with the Finance Committee, singing in the Angelic Choir and was a strong member in the re-structing of the Missionary Ministry.  When it came to the Church….where ever she was needed….she worked!

She leaves to cherish her memory:  3 Daughters:  Estella (David) Shannon of Benton Harbor; Marilyn (Benny) Taylor of West Memphis, Arkansas; and Barbara of St. Joseph, MI; Sisters: Lee Ella Robinson, Garland, TX; Mattie Allison, Mae Frances (Roy) Council, and Linda Petty, all of Marianna, AR;  Mary Ann Robinson, Ontario, CA, Pecola Burns, Memphis, TN; and Linta Robinson of Fayetteville, AR;  Brothers:  Tomy (Pam) Robinson, Charles Robinson, both of Columbus, GA, and Jimmy Robinson of Jonesboro, AR;  14 Grandchildren;  50 Great-Grandchildren; 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Sis Coleman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; 2 sons: Charles Barnes and Samuel Coleman, Jr.; sister, Cornelius Robinson.
