Eula Turner Obituary

Eula Mae Turner, affectionately known to her family, friends, and anyone who ever graced her home or ate her delicious food, as Ain’t  Mae.  Ain’t Mae was born December 31, 1930, in West Pointe, Mississippi to the late Moses Gray Fields and Eula Fields.  She was born to a large family of 9 children, 4 brothers, and 5 girls.

A lifelong resident for over 70 years Ain’t Mae came to Benton Harbor at the age of 19. She was employed with Jean Laundry, Modern Plastics, and did seasonal fruit packaging.

In 1968 Ain’t Mae married her beloved Henry (Bill), Turner.  They were married for 43 years and many children were raised and blessed with unconditional love, wisdom, humility, and a willingness to give.  Ain’t Mae loved to cook and her family would come from, with their friends in tow, from far and near for her hot scrumptious meals, cakes, and pies.  Ain’t Mae and Uncle Bill’s house was the house to gather and laugh, share stories about being raised in the Turner household…those teaching and traditions are still, today, very much a part of our family's heritage and legacy of love.

Ain’t Mae loved going to Bingo with her family and friends.  She also loved to bowl.  She bowled for the East End Grill for over 10 years often traveling with her team from state to state for tournaments.

All of those who walked through the doors of 1267 Superior, knew that Ain’t May didn’t hold back her love nor her advice.  She was straight to the point and did not hold back the truth to spare our feelings. In spite of her blunt truthfulness, it never kept us away from her door.  We knew she loved each of us, no matter our differences or flaws.  And that is what made us treasure her until the day of her passing.

On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, our beloved left us to be reunited with her loved ones, surrounded by her loving daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She leaves to celebrate her life… her (4) daughters): Marshell Booker of Basset, Arkansas, Sheila Gills of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Deborah Ellis, and Kenya Ellis of Benton Harbor, Michigan. (2) sons: WalterCampbell of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Eric (Lori) Turner of Cincinnati, Ohio. (1) son- in- law: Rick Atterberry of Benton Harbor, Michigan and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Henry (Bill) Turner, (1) son LeVester (Duane) Fields, and her daughter Paulette Atterberry, a great-granddaughter Evelyn Mae Lockett, (4) brothers, and (4) sisters.
