Eugene Spencer was born June 6, 1949, in Armorel, Arkansas to the late Willie and Nancy Spencer, Sr. He was the seventh of eleven children born to this union.
Eugene Spencer received his formal education at Armorel High School in the small rural community located on the levee close to the Mississippi River…a community filled with joy and love. He set his affection for the fast pace of the North, namely Chicago, Illinois where he fell in love with stylish clothes and the motor trends! However, Eugene decided to make Benton Harbor, Michigan his permanent place of residency. He worked in the steel industry mainly at Auto Specialties for many years before retiring. Whenever needed he worked with Pastor Fletcher McAfee doing what he was asked. He will always be remembered for his flashy dress appetite coupled with the matching hat…titled to the side…bright vibrant colored suits and matching shoes!
He loved “hanging with” preachers, especially the late Pastor Milton McAfee and Pastor Fletcher McAfee…they enjoyed a great number of meals together. He and Pastor Fletcher shared breakfast weekly until Eugene’s health no longer allowed! He continued this same love of preachers at New Bethel under Pastor Maurice McAfee. During the church picnics and outings…you could depend on him in a space with his deep fryer cooking fish! He will be sorely missed by his family and friends….as the family chef, favorite uncle, best dad, best big brother….and simply the Boss!
Eugene Spencer leaves to cherish his memories his loving companion Madge Caldwell; 6 daughters: Latrice Richards (Dewayne), Tonya (Bishop Sunny) Osagie, Alauna (Adrian) Spencer-Scales, Brianna (Bryan) Bosley, April Eddie, and Lisa Caldwell; 1 son, Justin (Tara) Wilson; God sons: Ronnie Patrick, Dennis Hudson, and John-John; the proud grandfather (Paw Paw) of 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 3 siblings: Jerlean (Fessor), Louise Williams, and Roy (Ambinbola).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Nancy Spencer; 7 siblings: Willie Jr., Robert, Lee Edward, Lorell, Tildia, Lorrine and David.
