Essie Johnson Obituary

Essie Mae Johnson, 86, of Benton Harbor MI, formerly of Clarksdale MS, departed this life on May 24, 2020, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph MI. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held later in the summer so that all family and friends may attend.

Essie was born on July 31, 1933, in Drew, MS, to R.G. Wildwood and Mellie Hunter. She relocated to Benton Harbor MI in 2017 so that she was closer to family.

Essie loved to talk and loved her family. She was good with her hands and loved to do crafts. Her home in Clarksdale was filled with many different types of craft items she made. Prior to moving to Michigan, she always attended church when she was able. She leaves to cherish her memories her brother Al Brady, niece Rose Johnson, niece Pauline (Joe) Gordon, niece Alicia (Lanny) McCalvin, niece Diane Brady, nephew Robert Lee Suggs, sister- in- law Portia Jones, friend T. L. Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Essie was preceded in death by her husband AB Johnson, brothers Willie Lee Jones, Robert Lee Brady, Willie Lee Brady, sisters Annette Brady, and Gracie Ferguson.
