Dorothy Beatrice Thompson, age 84, our beloved matriarch, passed away in Grand Rapids, MI on December 12, 2025. She was born December 3rd 1941, in Steele, MO. to Frank Delaney, Jr. and Virgie (Stewart) Delaney

Dorothy, lovingly known to her family as “Chief” or “Granny Chief”, was a sweet and loving soul whose caring, nurturing spirit touched everyone around her. She was a member of the Coit Community Church in Grand Rapids, MI. She was artistically creative, finding joy in expressing herself through her talents, and she loved playing cards with the family. Being around Granny Chief was always filled with laughter, connection, and the warmth she brought to every family gathering. Granny Chief had a way of making people feel welcome and loved. She was a beloved presence in the lives of those who knew her. She was known for her kindness, quiet strength, and the care she showed to family and friends throughout her life. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and she will be remembered for the love she shared so freely.

She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, always offering comfort, encouragement, and unwavering support. Her gentle nature and generous heart left a lasting impression that will not be forgotten.

Dorothy’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Wanda Thompson and her son Tony Thompson, grandchildren Shaneca, Latoya, Adrian, RoyLee, Brittany, Camillius III, Antoine, and Danielle, sixteen great grandchildren, thirteen great, great grandchildren, her brother Elgie Delaney, her sisters Margaret (Herman) Thompson, Mildred Corhn, Barbara Whitfield, and Elizabeth Delaney and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.

Dorothy is proceeded in death by husband Camillius Thompson, Sr, son Camillius, Jr., paternal grandparents Frank, Sr. and Elizabeth Delaney, maternal grandparents Phillip and Vinnie Stewart, brothers, Frank Delaney III, James Delaney, Verdean Delaney, and Raymond Delaney, sisters Lima Delaney, Virsie Shepherd, and Rita Delaney
