Djuana Palmer Obituary

Djuana Yolanda Palmer, daughter of Joseph Palmer and Maggie Atkinson was born on March 28, 1965, in Berrien Center, Michigan. She passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, January 31st, 2020 at her home. We are confident in knowing that she passed away in her sleep into a new life. She was truly a bright light and inspiration in all the lives she touched and certainly in ours. Djuana was affectionately called Yogi/ Bear.

Djuana attended Benton Harbor area Schools and also Lake Michigan Catholic High School in St. Joseph, Michigan where she graduated. She continued her education with an Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and a bachelor’s degree at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Djuana was an Alumni at both educational institutions.

Djuana grew up at Unity Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop William Nichols, Sr, and Mo. Martha Nichols who were like second parents to her. She participated in various auxiliaries including; Sunshine Band, Purity Class, Choir and Others.

Djuana worked in various industries including retail, banking, and manufacturing. She loved to cook and was a great cook, loved music and doing crossword puzzles, had a "green thumb" (plants), loved to decorate and had a special love for her children, granddaughter, nieces, and nephews, especially Ty Hegwood-Palmer and Tamara Palmer.

Djuana leaves to forever cherish her memory: Her loving children: Theodore Palmer and Tjuana McIntosh and her beautiful granddaughter: Tymella Holloway, (whom she adored) all of Niles, MI. Her Godchildren: Tiffany (Yonda) Robinson of Indianapolis, IN and Mike Mike Horne of Benton Harbor, MI. Her loving Parents: Joseph Palmer of Jonesboro, Ark, and Maggie (Eld. William) Atkinson of St. Joseph, MI. Five Sisters: Jacquenette (Roy) Armstead of Benton Harbor, MI, Thosha (Anthony) Suggs of St. Joseph, MI, Quanda (Scott) Dykstra of Comstock Park, MI, Nathyln (Robert) Simpson of Indianapolis, IN, and Faith Craig, of Decatur GA. Two Brothers: Maurice Palmer of Phoenix, AZ and William Atkinson III, of Kalamazoo, MI.  Special Cousin/Sister: Louella (Lujuan) Self of Arlington, TX.

A host of Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Great-Nephews, Great-Nieces, Cousins and Friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Cass and Bessie Palmer and Orlander and Callie Mister. And her loving nephew Timothy Palmer.

Djuana will be missed by all.
