Dion Powell Obituary

With heavy hearts, we celebrate and honor the life of Dion Powell Sr., a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away on the evening of January 2, 2026, at the age of 51, in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Born in East Chicago, Indiana, Dion carried his roots with him while building a life grounded in purpose, passion, and service.

Dion lived for his family and made them his greatest priority. He was present, intentional, and unwavering in his love, always guiding with quiet strength and lived experience. His influence was felt deeply by those closest to him, offering encouragement, honesty, and direction through both words and actions.

Technology was more than a career for Dion—it was a lifelong passion. He attended Lake Michigan College and earned numerous IT certifications, always driven by the desire to learn more and go further. His career began in computer repairs, evolved into networking, and ultimately led him to Linux and cloud engineering. He proudly supported his local community by providing repair services and working at Kinexus as IT support, before achieving his goal of remote work later in his career. His love for technology inspired both his son and daughter to pursue paths in IT, a legacy he was incredibly proud of.

Outside of tech, Dion was a familiar face at the YMCA, known for his smooth, reliable jump shot and the countless hours he spent there. He mentored young athletes, encouraged discipline, and became a father figure to many, always willing to pour into the next generation. Whether through sports, technology, or everyday conversations, Dion found ways to uplift others.

Dion is preceded in death by his brother, Ivan Spicer. He is survived by his daughters, Dionna Powell and Tashara Powell; his sons, Dion Powell Jr. and Darius Powell; his brother, Gregory Spicer; his sisters, Sherri Spicer and Ashawnta Robinson; his mother, Diane Spicer; and his lifelong partner Lakeysha Parker, along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Though deeply missed, Dion’s love, lessons, and legacy live on through those he touched. He will always be remembered for the life he built, the people he guided, and the paths he helped others find.
