Delma McAfee Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”   II Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

The bible speaks of the various seasons that God has planned for His people…. It tells us to everything there is a time and a season to every purpose under the Heaven!

Sis. Delma Jean McAfee reached the end of her season early Tuesday, September 14, 2021, peacefully at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital surrounded by her family.    Sis. Debra……. as she was lovingly known to her church family…. was born March 17, 1956, in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Albert and Maxine Wyrick.  She was the second youngest of the thirteen children.   The family relocated to Benton Harbor in 1968.      She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age and was baptized under the pastorage of the late Rev. Milton McAfee.  Debra enjoyed her membership at New Bethel until her transition from this earth.  The church family was often told of the awesome blessing of God in her life and her gratitude and thanks to Him for His goodness to her!

She was previously married to the late Ricky McDonald and the Rev. Don McAfee.  Sis. Debra received her formal education from the Benton Harbor School system and was a proud 1972 graduate of Benton Harbor High School.  Her employment career was spent at Spectrum Health where she was well known for being dependable.   Sis. Debra had “an eye for fashion” and her feisty personality shall always be remembered with a smile!    The activities that brought her joy were her love for cooking! She was famous for HER Spaghetti, the Mac and Cheese, and the fabulous Red Velvet cake she gave these dishes a new meaning for delicious!  Sis. Debra loved her family…. her children, her siblings, and especially the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren.  Everyone loved to come to her because she always made you feel ‘right at home!

Loving memories will always be in the hearts of those she left behind….2 children:  Leonard Caprice (Danielle) Smith of Grand Rapids and Dr. Sheba Moss-Danna (Derrick) of Las Vegas, NV; 11   grandchildren:  Nicholas Martin, DaVonta Lloyd, Kofi Hopkins, Alexus Wilson, LaMarrius Smith, Twanyea Smith, Knowledge Smith; Heaven Smith, Kamya Smith, Sharay’ah Moss, and Day’ton Atterberry;   9 great-grandchildren:  Brothers:  Ervin Hurst, Dennis Wyrick, and Eloise Wyrick; Sisters:  Georgia Chandler, Freddie Standifer, Albertina Bell-Bowman, and Joanne Commings;  A sister-in-love:  Brenda Beaty; 3 children-by-love:  Terrell Sanders, Robert Windom, and Allen Willis; a host of Aunts, Uncles, niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.
