Curtis Jones Jr. Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,  I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown  of righteousness,  which the Lord, the righteous judge,  shall give me at that day: and not to  me only,  but unto all them also that love his appearing.”   II Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

The bible speaks of the various seasons that God has planned for His people….. It tells us to everything there are a time and a season to every purpose under Heaven!   Bro. Curtis Jones, Jr. reached the end of his season on  Tuesday, August 6th privately and peaceful in his home.  Curtis was born December 11, 1953, in Earle, AR to the late Curtis Jones, Sr., and Mattie Mae Perry.    He accepted Christ at a very early age at St. Luke Baptist Church in Earle, AR under the pastorate of Rev. James Turner and was baptized with his brother Tommie.  Curtis loved his family and enjoyed life to the max!  His greatest joy was entertaining his family and friends at his home.  Life was not complete without his children and his grandchildren….whom he treasured.  Curtis found great fun in sports…especially playing softball where he held numerous trophies to “quietly boast” of his skills.   You had to be there when the Adams/McAfee VS the Jones basketball game ….better known as “The Challenge,” took place to truly understand the nickname…”Slick…he deserved that name!  His favorite sports teams were the 49ers and the Lakers!

His formal schooling was completed in 1971 at Soul Institute in Earle.  He was employed by Bosch and retired in 2011.  He spent his retirement living and loving his family and friends.  The last weekend of his life was spent and the Family Reunion in Baltimore, Maryland.    Bro. Jones was a full-time  ”visitor” at New Bethel until he made the choice to become a full-fledged member in 2016!    Gospel music made his day especially when he heard the New Bethel Mass Choir and, as he affectionately named them……the New Bethel Gap Band!  He loved his Pastor Moe and affectionately made loving statements….. we won’t mention…… when the Holy Ghost came upon Pastor Moe.

Loving memories will always be in the hearts of those he left behind….2 sons: Daryl D. White, of Irving, TX, David Tovler,  Chicago, IL;  2 daughters: Shandell Lewis (fiancée, Byron Meriweather), Michigan City, IN, and Andrea (Demetrius Carter)Logan of Detroit; a step-daughter: April Bragg of Benton Harbor;  7 grandchildren:  Bianca, Ki’Yatta, Felicia, Demetrius, Da’Minique, Caden and Caleb; 1 Great-grandson, Jayden (better known as Tarzan), 1 sister, Emma Jean (Jimmie Lee Thompson) Alex  of Anchorage, Alaska; 4 brothers: Tommie (Carolyn) o Benton Harbor, Alton of Elgin, IL , Floyd of Memphis, TN, and Carl of Benton Harbor; one Aunt Leora (Little Tut) Hughes. Of Portland, OR and a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins.   Special caregivers who he appreciated deeply:  Nieces, Taryn and Tonia Jones, and Kerry Krause.  Life-long friends, Ezell Cox, Victoria White, Deborah Cox, and Willie Turner.    He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and  a brother Ray,

Our beloved Curtis fought a good fight…he finished his course and kept the faith and there is a crown of righteousness awaiting him.   His season was ended but his legacy lives on.
