Charles E. Pitre

Charles Edward Pitre affectionately known as “Peaches” to his family and friends, was born on April 9, 1944, in St. Landry Parish, Opelousas, Louisiana to James Pitre Sr. and Florence Pitre Seigure. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away June 13, 2026 at the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Hospital with his granddaughter at his bedside. Charles put up a strong fight for many years.

Let him tell it he had died three times and came back each time but, this time he was tired. He had made peace with it and was ready to go home.

Charles attended Grand Island Elementary School in St. Landry Parish. He was only able to complete the third grade. He dropped out to help his family out on the farm. Charles left Louisiana in his 20s and went to Florida for a while then eventually migrated up north to Benton Harbor, Michigan where he lived out his life. He worked as parts builder at now closed Auto Speciality.

Charles was a great man and had a wonderful listening ear. If you ever had a problem and just need someone to talk to about it in a judgement free zone he was your guy. He may laugh at your problem at first depending the situation and who you are, trust that laugh is contagious cause you’ll laugh as well. Then buckle up for some good or not so good advice depends on you how you take it.

To know Charles you knew, he enjoyed fishing, and being in the house with his girlfriends. By girlfriends we all knew he meant his televisions he kept two just in case one went out on him. Charles enjoyed watching his westerns, Andy griffin show, let’s not forget his stories Young and The Restless and Bold and The Beautiful. That man never missed a episode and would be highly upset if he did.

One thing to to always remember about Charles is when he had his mind set on something he was determined to reach that goal whatever it was. That man forever will be a fighter!

To cherish his loving memory he leaves; Children: Three Daughters Katherine and Tracey Pitre, Leanna Jenkins, Son in-law Barry Anderson. Sister: Gertrude Pitre StepneyGrandchildren: Meghann Lampkin, Alexanderia Dubois, Justin (Karmease) Jenkins, Paige Pitre, Krystal Pitre, Lydia Pitre, Charles (Nadia) Anderson, Charles Pitre II, Jessica Jenkins, and Amiya Anderson. 29 great grandchildren, One great great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins Extended family: Tiffany Cook, Michael Cook, Lonzo Cook, Terry Jenkins, Louise Jenkins, Benjamin Jackson.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents: James Pitre Sr., Florence Pitre Seigure, Siblings: Two sisters Mary and Lucille Pitre, One brother James "Jim" Pitre Jr. Wife: Delores Hayes Pitre, Significant partner: Linda D Cook, Daughter: Tari "Book" Anderson, Grandson: Christopher A Cobbs.
