Brenda Kay Ross (Gaines)
Brenda Kay Ross 61 of Benton Harbor, MI transitioned on February 23, 2024, at Corewell Health Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI.
Brenda was born August 9, 1962, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the daughter of L.C. Gaines Sr. and Laura Irene Ware-Gaines. She was one of the middle siblings of fifteen children.
Brenda will be remembered as a funny, lovable sister, mother, aunt, and friend. She worked for Lakeland Homecare for ten years. Brenda enjoyed playing the lottery and going to the casino with friends in her free time.
Brenda was a member of Greater Community Christian Fellowship Church COGIC. She faithfully served under the leadership of the late Elder Nathaniel Wells III for many years as a Usher. She was a proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School.
Brenda is survived by her two sons Marcus Hughes, and Steven Gaines, two daughters Monika Ross, and Ayanna Hughes; two grandchildren Jordan and Sierra Ross all from Benton Harbor, MI. Her brothers L.C. Gaines Jr., Bennie Gaines, Robert Gaines, Terry Gaines, Anthony Gaines, and Timothy Gaines, sisters Laura Ann Gaines-Rittmon, Betty Gaines and Shelly Gaines-Clay. Her favorite nieces Cherie Gaines-Jones, Shelby Clay, and her godson Dasharion Walls, and a host of nieces, and nephews. Brenda good friends for many years Connie Walls (God sister), Tamara Blackwell, Judy Parker, Jimmie Caldwell, Rosa Long, Vickie Brown, Vanett Word and Hazel Lockett, and God-mother Clara Adams.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Earl Goodman, Father L.C. Gaines Sr., Mother Laura Irene Ware-Gaines, brother David Gaines, sisters Dorothy Gaines, Lucille Gaines, Rose Mary Gaines, Mary Ann Gaines-McKinney, her favorite aunt Virgie Lee Page and cousin Josephine Wooden (Peaches).
