Brenda Joyce Powell was born August 28,1958 at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, MI. She was the third child born to the late Minister Albert and Mother Maebell Powell.
She was sharp, always orderly but yet fragile, noted by our mom she graduated from Benton Harbor High School and not long after went to work at KO Products Company in Benton Harbor. This was the start of her career in the Metal Stamping Industry where she was a part of management teams as well as regular staff. Prior to demise she worked for Great Lake Metal Stamping for upwards of twenty years.
Brenda along with the Powell family joined Reed Temple COGIC in 1973. She's believed to have been the last of the members from the church's "First Glory". It was there that she was baptized in water by the late Pastor L.C. Reed at Jean Klock Park and also where she received the baptism of Holy Ghost. She had the honor of serving in various capacities such as faithful choir and praise team member where they sang til God's glory filled the house.
The usher board where she graciously handled the people God. She was Big Sister Sunshine as she lead The Reed Temple Sunshine Band. Brenda was apart of the Nurses Guild she really took it to heart and it was done with dignity and a Godly respect for all those she served. Sis Brenda lead the PURITY CLASS with great character. The place of Hospitality Committee gave her a chance to offer her warmth and her infectious smile on behalf of the church that she loved and served so well. The capacity of church secretary was well loved by our faithful servant captured below is her final letter to the wonderful people whom she served.
Our Beloved Sister was called from labor to reward on December 4, 2024, during a short term stay at and our thanks to West Woods of Bridgeman Nursing Center. While there God gave her favor with several of the staff who would hear her calling on Jesus and they'd stop and pray with her or turn on the gospel to comfort her. Brenda loved God and her family. On New Year's Day following her time at watch night service (her last church attendance) she asked that we "dance more in 2024". One of her favorite songs was I Feel Good by Fred Hammond.
