Bishop John McCoy Obituary

Bishop Designee, Elder John E. McCoy, Pastor of Trinity C.O.G.I.C.  Benton Harbor, MI departed this life Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at 7:26 am, peacefully with family.

John Edward McCoy was born December 10th, 1934, in Tyronza, AR., and resided in Benton Harbor, MI for over 70 years.  In the early 1950’s he was known as a Golden Glove Prize boxer.  He was employed at Superior Steel, Indiana Electric Co., and Zales Jewelry Store just to name a few.  After working with Kmart Corporation for over 30 years, he retired in 1997.

In 2019 under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel W. Wells, prelate of the Western Michigan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Church Of God In Christ the decision of elevation was appointed as Bishop Designee.

Bishop Designee John McCoy leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 64 years, Anna Louise McCoy, 6 children; Etta (William) Fulton  Beverly (Joseph) Brown, John (Angelia) McCoy all of Benton Harbor, Bruce (Shirley) McCoy of Grand Rapids, Tracy (Trenton) Morris of Tallahassee and LaMont McCoy of Kalamazoo, 16 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers; Paul McCoy, Robert (Pam) McCoy, Calvin (Wilona) McCoy and Steven (Patricia) McCoy, 7 sisters; Rosie (Edward) Hudson, Ruthie Haralson, Annie Queen (Anthony) Rolling, Virgie (Michael) Rollins and Darlene McCoy, Katie McCoy, and Helena Allen, also a numerous amount of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death, grand-children: Marquise Thompson, Gerome Randolph, Samuel Curtis Jr., Savod Curtis, and Avery Curtis, father: John H. McCoy, mother: Annie L. McCoy, brothers: Searcy McCoy and Leonard McCoy, sisters: Maxine Robinson and Dorothy Clark.
