Beverly Jean (Griffin) Bunton

In the year of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, 1938, on November 18th in Atlanta, Georgia, a beautiful baby girl was born and given the name Beverly Jean Griffin to the union of A.B. and Louise Griffin.  Her Mother died shortly thereafter and the assignment of raising Beverly was handed to her Aunt Lillian “Me Me” Anderson.  That day and time would mark the beginning of a compassionate legacy that only God could orchestrate.

Beverly graduated from Howard High School in 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was a born again Christian who relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan and united with the Methodist Church but later became a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Donald B. Adkins and remained for over 45 years.  She served as an Usher and could often be found ushering parishioners’ into the Sanctuary with her warm and inviting smile.

Beverly met and married the love of her life, Edwin Earl Buntonon June 30, 1961.  They shared 45 beautiful years together.  She was the epitome of what every woman should desire to be as a wife.  Beverly was the Queen of her home and everyone who entered there found love, beauty and warmth. She loved to entertain and made sure that everything she displayed was done with sophistication and class to those she welcomed.  Beverly was employed by Michigan State University Expanded Food and Nutrition Program where she worked alongside many of her closest and dearest friends.  She trained many young women the art of domestication and how to manage their homes properly.  God knows she had mastered that well.

The Master called Beverly from the labors of life on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Lakeland Medical Center,  St. Joseph, Michigan surrounded by her loved ones.  She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted children, Henrietta Renee “Retta” (Craig) Bell of Benton Harbor, Michigan Edwin Earl “Skip” Bunton of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Kevin (Lynn) Griffin of Benton Harbor, Michigan.  Seven Grandchildren, Twelve Great-Grandchildren and many dear friends and loved ones whom she shared her love unselfishly. She was preceded in death by her loving Husband Edwin Earl Bunton, parents, A.B. and Louise Griffin, two Sisters, Patsy Griffin Finley and Helen Griffin Battle.  The life, legacy and love of Beverly Jean Griffin Bunton will live in the hearts of many forever.
