Sis. Bettie Lou Dokes was born November 19, 1942, in Ridgely, Tennessee, to the late Mr. Wilford and Mrs. Marshall L. Dokes. She was the second of nine children born to this union. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five siblings, Sisters: Eddie Mae, Betty Lee, Rosie Lee, Paulene and a brother Emerson; one son, Ernest Harry Williams, Sr.
Sis. Dokes was raised in the Baptist faith and was a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist church and sung in the choir under the leadership of the late Rev. Christian. Sis. Bettie later moved her membership to New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Milton McAfee. She continued her journey with Jesus and faithfully attended Sunday School and worship service to feed and nourish her soul.
Sis. Dokes was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Tiptonville, TN. She was employed as a paraprofessional with the Benton Harbor Area School system for many years. Sis. Bettie led a full life and enjoyed every moment. She answered the Master’s call on February 17th at Hanson Hospice House, Stevensville, MI surrounded by her loving and caring family.
Sis. Dokes leaves to cherish her precious memories four daughters: Renita Briggs, Cindy (Bobby) Williams, Aries Webb, all of Benton Harbor, MI and Jackie William of Port Huron, MI; one son: LaShaun (Kimberlyn) Williams of South Bend, IN; Three sisters: Mary Reid and Myrtle Dokes both of Ridgely, TN and Dorothy Matthews of Dallas, TX; 19 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Our family realizes that our loss is Heaven’s gain. “TILL WE MEET AGAIN” to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. We shall truly miss you….we have deep-rooted memories that we will always cherish and remember….we love you Mama, but God loves you best.
