Anthony Ralph Thompson entered this mortal life on July 9th, 1959, in Benton Harbor, MI. He was the fourth son born to Elam and Irene Thompson.
Tony was a unique individual who defied all odds. Some of his many accomplishments include learning how to walk, hitting milk cartons filled with rocks, and learning how to balance and ride a bike even though he could not see. He enjoyed bowling every Friday with his special group of friends and had a close friend named Charlene for many years.
One of his proudest moments was attending and graduating from the Lansing Michigan School for the Blind and getting the chance to meet Stevie Wonder. He also spent many years at the Harbor House Day Care Center, where his special caretaker, Mrs. Eddie, faithfully picked him up and ensured he reached his destination safely.
Tony was baptized at the AME Church by Pastor Jelks in the late 70s and found joy in attending and listening to the choir. He also frequented New Paradise Baptist Church with his sister-in-law Wavey and nephew Carleton.
A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, Tony could recite players' averages and stats and cherished memories of attending a game with Lenny and Wavey. His all-time favorite song was “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”
Tony is survived by his brothers Leonard (Wavey) Thompson of Benton Harbor, MI, Raymond Thompson of San Antonio, TX, and George Thompson of Benton Harbor, MI, as well as his sister Karen (Percy) Atkins of Warren, MI, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks to Fred (Petey) Gilmore and Isabel Ash for their unwavering support. His favorite name for his sister Karen was (Pooh Bear) and his famous words to Lenny were (I Love You, Big Brother). His love for his Niece Courtney (Poodle) brought a smile to his face. Rest on Anthony Thompson.
Tony will always be remembered for his infectious smile and pleasant demeanor. He departed this life on April 3rd, 2024, at Corewell Health in St. Joseph, MI. We love you, Tony. GO
