Aaron Hunter Obituary

Aaron Lee Hunter 66 of Indianapolis, IN formerly of Benton Harbor departed this life February 23, 2025.

Aaron was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Aaron R.C. Hunter and Shirley Jean-Hunter Sapp.  Aaron was always a leader in everything he put his hands to.  He was a proud husband, father, and brother who loved without end.  If you needed him, he was there when he felt you needed him. He was there when he felt you needed God.

On February 23, 2025, God called for Aaron’s hand as he had done good.  It was time to rest.  He had been called to receive his inheritance from Heaven. (John 14:2)

Aaron was a Protector, especially to the ones he loved … His family.  When he spoke, everyone listened.  You couldn’t help but hear him.  He had a voice that roared like a lion.  He said what he meant and meant what he said … and that was that.  He was well known by so many. He played a big part in many lives.

Aaron enjoyed his family, music and cars, and he could tell you what type of car it was with a simple glance.  Music moved through his spirit with joy, although he would tell you he couldn’t hold a note.

He was a strong family man and believer.  His greatest joy was being around and surrounded by his family.  He was a smart man, a one-of-a-kind man.  The saying that everyone has a twin.  Not Aaron.  He stood out and he stood strong.

Aaron was proceeded in death by his father, Aaron R.C. Hunter, his mother, Shirley Jean-Hunter Sapp, brothers, Neno Swanigan, George Swanigan and Mark Swanigan, daughter, Eeron Disha Damosha Danyale Hunter, and grandparents, grandmother, Virgi Marie Smith.

Mourning Aaron is his wife Vernard Hunter of 25 years, son’s, Aaron Hunter III, Robert Berry, Virese Berry (all of Benton Harbor), stepson’s, Prentiss, Darrell, Tawron Johnson (all of Tennessee), daughter, Robin Berry of Benton Harbor, stepdaughters, Rebecca Coy of Kalamazoo, Sierra Johnson of Niles, Jazzminique Johnson of Tennessee, sister, Mary Swanigan of Benton Harbor, brothers, Ernest and Eddie Swanigan of Benton Harbor, an aunt, Lena Swanigan and an uncle James Swanigan. Three special nieces, Latoya Swanigan, Latonya Doss, Latosha Doss (all of Lansing, MI), and nephew, John Woodley of Benton Harbor.

Aaron also leaves behind granddaughters, Aa’Rynn Janae Denise Hunter, who will make her entry into this world in June.  He looked forward to her entry into this world with joy and expectation.  A host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. A special cousin, Dwayne Poole and many more associates and friends.
