Willie B. McGee Jr. 63, of Berwyn IL, transitioned from earthly labor to his peaceful rest on November 3rd, 2017. Legacy Farewell Celebration will commence at 11am on Saturday Nov. 18th, 2017 located at New Bethel Baptist Church. with calling hours from 10am until the time of service.

Willie B. McGee Jr. was born on April 30, 1954 to Willie B. and Shirley McGee in St. Joseph, Michigan. He received his nickname when he was just a week old when his 2yr old sister Susan, could not say baby, so she walked around informing everyone, Mommy had a little BB.  All while attending the Benton Harbor Public School Systems; he was called by no other name.

BB received Christ at an early age l and continued to be a God fearing man till he closed his eyes.  His favorite song was ‘Never Could Have Made It’ by Marvin Sapp.  Tears formed in his eyes when his sister played for him while in the hospital.                                          

During his school year, he was known for being quite the ladies man.  Basketball was his favorite sport, but he was also known for, pool, ping ball, his “GQ” style and genuine kindness. 

 Because all the guys and himself, knew he was so good in basketball, he did not attend all the practices for the BHHS Varsity team try outs. When his name wasn’t on the roster he asked the coach why he did not make it when he was one of the best that tried out.  The coach told him, BB I would have picked you first string hands down but you have to be disciplined to play on my team. Even though BB didn’t play on the team, the team practiced with him, which developed into a lifelong bond.

BB’s used to always say “if you look good, you feel good which is why he could have been on the cover of “GQ Magazine” any day of the week.  In the McGee household he did not allow any of us to leave the house with wrinkled clothes, even if he had to iron them himself.

Some of the words used to describe BB include, so caring and thoughtful of others.  Good man always had a smile when I was around. I have only happy memories of him, a man with a beautiful spirit.  Anytime you are around him, you laugh till your stomach hurts.   

BB moved to Los Angeles, California in his early 20’s where he was able to be whom he wanted to be, himself.  In Los Angeles, if anyone asked what the BB stood for, he proudly said Black Beauty.  With his long beautiful hair and infectious smile, he continued to be a Black Beauty both inside and out. He received two awards from the Salvation Army for outstanding employee and his kindness and loving personality.

He truly loved and respected all of his family members from his mother whom he affectionately called Ma Dear, to his children, siblings’, Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews, (including the greats) and in-laws. From the youngest Cousins, to the oldest friend and casual person he came in contact with, he will truly be missed by us all and will forever be treasured in our hearts.

BB leaves to cherish his two beautiful daughters, Neeka Burks of St. Louis, Missouri, Tatica (George) Oketa, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his mother Shirley Brent of Benton Harbor, Michigan,  six siblings, Susan (Donald) Roseman, Julia Turner, Milton and Raymond McGee all of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Cynthia (Vaughan) Stevens of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Valerie Robinson of San Jose, California; five grandchildren, Asia ,Barbara, Evanna, Mekesh, Maurice and Randy as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death include his son Corey Thomas, his father Willie B McGee Sr., Sister Stella McGee, Grandparents, Milton and Irma Smith and Willie and Pearl McGee also baby Nephew, Tony Bailey.
