Virgie Atkinson Obituary

Virgie Lee Atkinson 78, departed this life on May 26, 2019, at home.  

Virgie Lee Brown Tillman Atkinson was born March 25, 1941, to the late JB and Izona Brown the first of 11 children in Armorel, AK. She met and married the late Preston Tillman Sr. in 1956 and to this union 7 children were born. In 1983 she met and married the late Henry Atkinson Sr.

Virgie was a true family person. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for her family. The Cammon and Campbell family reunion was her passion in life. She spent hours helping the planning committee, chartering buses and at the time spending her own money. As long as her family was happy, she was happy. She loved traveling and spending her winter months in Florida.

Virgie retired from Michigan Fruit Cannery in 1995 after 35 years of service. After retirement, Virgie became co-owner with her sisters of Sista Girlfriends Boutique. She enjoyed looking at all the pretty clothes.

Virgie leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Caron and Sharon Tillman of Benton Harbor; sons, Preston Jr. her special caregiver, Duane (Hellen) Tillman of Benton Harbor, Darrell (Gloria) Tillman of Peoria, IL and Eric Tillman of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Beatrice Brown, Washington DC, Emma King and Beulah Brown, Benton Harbor, Patricia (Oscar) Beecham of Dayton, TX, and Yvonne (Michael) Johnson of Wyoming, MI; brothers, Johnny, and Clearance (Theresa) Brown of Grand Rapids and Joel Brown of Benton Harbor; 3 stepchildren17 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; aunts, Josie Williams, Benton Harbor and Flora Cammon, Detroit;  1 brother-in-law; a host of family and friends.

Virgie was preceded in death by her husband Henry Atkinson; parents, JB and Izona Brown; daughter, Vernina Tillman; sisters, George Shurn and Mildred Brown.
