Silvia Henry Obituary

Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, godmother and beloved friend, Silvia LaTrice Henry, of New York, NY, transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 27, 2019,  in Montgomery, Alabama.

Silvia was born October 27, 1982, in Benton Harbor, MI to Silvia Henry and Roger Henry. She was formally educated in the Benton Harbor Area Schools and a proud graduate of the Benton Harbor High School Class of 2000.

Silvia’s name stands for “Queen of the Forest”. In 1999, at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Debutante Cotillion, Silvia was crowned Miss Debutante.  Her Senior year, Silvia was a finalist in the 2000 Miss Benton Harbor Contest.

In high school, Silvia played the saxophone in the Tiger Marching Band and Orchestra, Varsity Softball, Key Club, Ivy Teens, Jane Addams Chapter of the National Honor Society and was ranked #7 in her class.  She loved her classmates and they truly loved her.

Upon graduation from high school, Silvia attended North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC, to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering.  After three years, she left and soon after began her life work for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and was employed there for 13 years.

Silvia loved animals and enjoyed visiting the zoo. She had to have a Henry’s Brown Bag to remind her of home before she finished any visit to her beloved Benton Harbor.  She loved to read novels and personal growth books. She also had a very special love for Dolphins and Winnie the Pooh.

Under the leadership of the late Rev. Emery Mack Varrie I, “Little Silvia” as she was affectionately called by him,  accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was christened as a baby and baptized at the age of ten at the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.  She was an active member of Sunday School,  Bible Class, and Youth Usher Board.

Silvia will forever be remembered in the hearts of her loving mother,  Silvia D. Henry-Walton (LeAndrew); dedicated father Roger Henry; five sisters, LaTonya Henry-Denton (Richard) and Lesia Osler (Fabresico) both of Benton Harbor, Kimberly Henry-Smith (Chet) of South Haven, MS, Kiana Lee of Fort Worth, Texas, and Bessie Henry of Charlotte, North Carolina; three brothers, Roger VeNell Henry II,  and Ryan and Jordan Henry all of Benton Harbor; maternal grandparents, Murry and Willabea Stevens of South Bend, Indiana; two god-mothers, Mamie Johnson and Elnora Pryor; four god sisters, Veda, Tasha, Dorothy and Carla,; four god-brothers, Larry, Darrell, Tony and Michael; special Godchildren,  Zion, Jadin, Keyin, and Rylen Hackett, Vontoba, Jeremiah, and Faith Terry.
