Pastor Willie Gene McAfee

Pastor, Willie Gene, 65, son of Fletcher and Alice McAfee, grandson of Henry and Alberta McAfee from Eau Claire Michigan, who currently resided in Minneapolis Minnesota, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home Friday, July 6, 2018 at his home in Golden Valley, MN.  Legacy farewell service will be held on  Saturday July 14, 2018, at New Bethel Baptist Church, 2272 Townline Rd, Benton Harbor, MI 49022 with visitation starting at 10:00 am followed by service at 11:00 am.

He was born on March 3, 1953 at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor Michigan. He attended Eau Claire High School, in Eau Claire Michigan and received a basketball scholarship to Ferris State College.  He left college to join the military and married Glenda Gadson, and together they had 3 children, Tia, Erik and Erika. They divorced and years later Willie re-married to Joan Webb, to this union they had a daughter, JoNae. 

Willie loved his family, barbecuing, construction and above all, serving God.  In 1997 he accepted his call to preach and joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jerry McAfee and later became the Secretary for the Minnesota State Chapter of the National Baptist Convention. He was later call to be the Assistant Pastor at Greater Mount Vernon under the leadership of, Pastor Bowen. In 2002 God gave Willie the vision to start Nu Way Missionary Baptist Church which today is still thriving and changing lives.  

Willie G. McAfee will be greatly missed. He is survived by a loving wife, Joan McAfee of 33 years. His devoted children Tia (Reverend Christopher) Hildreth, Erika (Kerry) Levan, Reverend Erik McAfee and JoNae McAfee.Grandchildren Erik McAfee Jr., Kerry Levan Jr., Zyonna McAfee, Hayley Levan, Tay’vion McAfee, Saraya Hildreth, Nadia Hildreth and Christopher (Briannna) Hildreth ll and and two great- grandsons Chance McAfee and Kylen McAfee; Mother and Father Alice McAfee - Clay and Pastor Fletcher(Thomasine) McAfee; siblings Clotee McAfee, Alice (Reverend Bruce) Williams, Pastor Jerry (Carmen) McAfee, Christine Taylor, Bonita (Pastor Kevin) Mitchell, Angela McAfee, Marion (Ernest) Booth ,Sheldon (Schelila) McAfee and La’Vasia (Gary) McAfee Burford, Marion (Earnest) Booth and a host of aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
