May Evelyn Broyles Williams, passed away peacefully at home surround by her family on March 22nd, 2019.
May Evelyn Broyles Williams born November 2nd, 1952 to the late Henry Broyles Jr. and Blossie Hampton Broyles in Hughes, Arkansas. May grow up in Benton Harbor, Michigan where she attended several area schools. As a young child, May had a great love for the Lord; May joined the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Daniel E. Cook and remained a member under the current Pastor Rev. James O. Childs.
May was affectionately known for her beautiful smile and her kind heart and enjoyed traveling all around the country.
May worked in various grocery stores throughout the city. May landed her first job as a clerk at her family’s business, Hampton’s grocery store on Highland Ave in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
May was one of the first African American women to get hired as a Certified Meat Packager at Jewels grocery store downtown Benton Harbor. May later moved with Jewel on Napier Ave until they close their doors. May later found employment at Meijer in Benton Harbor, Michigan where she remained employed until her final day.
May leaves Precious Memories in the hearts of her children, Charles E. (Ricqyua) Williams Jr., Pamela D. Williams, and Marlon J. Williams all of Benton Harbor, Michigan. 8 grandchildren, Charles III, Nikkol, Tres’Von, Shariell, Rickia, Kiyla, Marlon Jr. and Lamar Williams.4 great-grandchildren Honesty C. and Serenity R. Atkins, Zhavia A. Williams and Xairien M. Bennett.Two Sisters, Helen (Earl) Calhoun of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Shelia (Toma) Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Two Brothers Ronald (Tonya) Broyles of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Gary (Tonia) Broyles of Sherwood, IL. One Aunt, Annie Mae Humphries one Uncle Robert Hampton both of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and many Family members and Friends.
May is preceded in death, by her Parents Henry Broyles Jr. & Blossie Hampton Broyles, Maternal Grandparents Owen, and Gracie Hampton, Paternal Grandparents Henry Sr. and Fannie Broyles. Three Brothers Michael, Dennis and Daniel Broyles, and the love of her life, Edward Lee Elbert Brassell.
