On Friday April 27, 2018 at 3:30 am Irene McKinney transitioned from Lakeland Healthcare to glory following a long-term illness. A homegoing service will be held at Union Memorial AME church 911 South Crystal on Monday, May 7, 2018 with visitation starting at 10:00 am and services following at 11:00 am.
Irene (Mrs. Sweetie) was born out of the matrimony of Tom and Alice Harris on June 10, 1935 in Pace, Mississippi. She was the eldest of four children. Irene married Joe McKinney in 1950, from that marriage 12 children were born.
Irene was a member of Union Memorial AME Church. She loved cooking, shopping, spending time with her children and listening to her music.
Irene leaves to mourn 4 daughters Mattie (Larry) Brooks, Mary Jo McKinney, Deloris (Keith) Edlam, and Tracy (Rodney) Walter. 6 sons Ben L McKinney, Bernard McKinney, Clifford (Christina) McKinney, Eric McKinney, Jerome McKinney, Tom (Mia) McKinney. Two siblings Lilly B (Leroy) McIntosh and Floyd Vester Jr. 33 grandchildren 64 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great children.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Joe McKinney, and 2 sons Joseph McKinney 111 and Clay McKinney.
