Irene "Dolly" (Fleming) Mccoy

Irene McCoy, affectionately known as “Dolly” of Benton Harbor passed away peacefully at her home, March 20, 2019.

Dolly was born January 18, 1947, in Benton Harbor to Tallmadge Fleming and Lucille Fleming.  She attended Benton Harbor Area Schools.  She went on to be a wonderful homemaker and invested her life to the people she loved.  Everyone knew her as “Blessings” because when you asked her how she was doing, she was going to say, “we are blessed and highly favored”. She always said that words are power so therefore, there were certain words she would not use, you could not say “bye” to her, she said its “see you later”, when she answered the phone, she would say either blessings or kingdom blessings, not hello because of the word “hell”. 

She never concentrated on age because she always referred to herself as “Birth less”. Everyone remembers her for her beautiful heart and caring nature.  She would literally give you the shirt off her back.  She was an amazing woman who taught many and her legacy will be the lessons she bestowed upon each and every one of us.  All she ever wanted was for everyone to keep the Father first in their life, remain humble and willing to help others and everything else will fall into place!  She would calmly say “a mustard seed is not that large, you got this!

Dolly is survived by her sons, Vernon E. Fleming (Twalla Buford), David Williams (Shanell Williams) daughter Karen D. Robinson (Machel Robinson), grandsons Brioni Fleming, Stacie L. Langford, Shavontae M. Langford (Cecilia Gallegos), Travis D. Shoemaker II (Sherdal Shoemaker), Troy D. Shoemaker, Treyvon Williams, David Williams and Sean Williams, granddaughters Terika S. Evans (Carlos Evans), and Amber Frye.  A special granddaughter, Lakesha Delaney, and a special God Daughter Kim Campbell and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

Dolly was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Fleming, father Tallmadge Fleming, sisters, Magnolia Evans and Jewel Fleming, brothers Robert Perkins, Vernon Billops, Jr., L.C. Fleming and Tallmadge Fleming, Jr., her daughter Regina “Tammy” Fleming, and her niece Ramona D. Evans.
