Dionne (Collier) Whitehead

On Tuesday, July 9th, 2019, Dionne LaShun Whitehead, loving mother of four children, returned to her heavenly father at the age of 50. Dionne was born on July 21st, 1968, in Benton Harbor, Michigan through the union of her mother, Lillie Ruth Collier, and her father, Lonnie Gillespie.

 Dionne had a passion for life and family was very important to her. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and loved ones. Music was also a passion of hers. She was the possessor of an old soul at a very young age. Her music collection consisted of such artist as the Isley Brothers, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Teena Marie, and the O’Jays just to name a few. She would put these on and enter a world of her own – dancing by herself – bopping in her living room.

Her pride and ambition were gratified and fortified by the foundation of her mother, children, grandchildren, aunts, brothers and sisters, nieces, and nephews.

Dionne was preceded in death by her father Lonnie Gillespie. She is survived by her mother Lillie Collier, daughters: Shaela Hampton and Shannel Muckerson; 2 sons Corey Whitehead Jr. and Corenyon Whitehead, brothers: Anthony Collier, Vernon Collier; Michael Gillespie, and Von Smith; sisters: Sherenia Collier-Johnson and Loretta Smith;  7 grandchildren: IQ Hampton, Keiavion Hampton; Channing Hampton, Guy Page, Lavaeha Page; Shanai Williams and Shante’ Muckerson; nieces: Kariyanna Collier, Keiashay Collier and Daijah Collier; nephews: Anthony Collier Jr., and Davaris Collier; aunts: Linear Sims, who preceded her in death; surviving aunts Janice Hamilton, Lisa Bobo,  Chrissy Glaspy Diana Wright, and Brenda Manning and uncles Brian Williams, and Kenneth Williams. She is further survived by her cousin’s the Kyle’s, and the Hoyle’s family.  A special friend John Rice; best-friends Regina McClinton, and Jamie Crum and a host of cousins, loved ones and friends.
