Welcome to the memorial page for

Otis Tuner Sr

September 26, 1935 ~ December 11, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Otis Turner Sr, 82 of Chicago Illinois, heard the Lord say, well done thy good and faithful servant, as he crossed the finish-line of this life and transitioned on December 11th, 2017.

It was a great day on September 26, 1935 when Olenthia (Avant) and Elbert Turner welcomed their sixth child, Otis to this world.  He was reared in Little Rock, AR and as he approached adulthood, Otis moved to Chicago, IL, where he met and married Elaine Brooks of Maywood, IL in 1956.  After their third child they decided to move to a smaller community to raise their family, and in1964, they moved to Benton Harbor, Mi and was blessed with three additional children.

Otis accepted Christ and joined Bethlehem Temple Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the late Elder Hunter. He worked in the church as a deacon and taught himself to play piano.  He loved to play piano so much that he had his children take piano lessons to encourage them to become worshipers of Christ.  Otis ran a firm ship and marched his children to Sunday school every Sunday morning, as we lived on the same street as the church.

He worked at Auto Specialty of Benton Harbor until they closed.  Otis then became an Entrepreneur by way of land lord and adult foster care homes.  Many years ago he had an opportunity to move back to Chicago.  More recently and most importantly he rededicated his life back to Christ and became a member of Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church of God, Chicago, IL under the leadership of Bishop Charles Davis.

Anyone who knew Otis, understood his love for his family, his avid love for playing checkers, domino and sharing his wisdom with the next generation. Otis was a unique individual who left a lasting impression with whomever he came in contact with.

Those bidding farewell are, his children: Otis Turner Jr of Benton Harbor, MI; Deborah (Melvin) Love of Jacksonville, NC; Yvonne (Jeffrey) Harper of Jacksonville, NC; Shelitha (Julius) McKee of Benton Harbor, MI; Beverly (Calvin) Vance of New Bern, NC; Otis Thompson of Chicago, IL; his sister: Johnny Mae Hughes of Chicago. IL, his 24 grand children and a host of great-grand children and other relatives and friends.

Otis was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Brooks Turner; daughter, Vanessa Lynn Turner; parents, Elbert and Olenthia Turner;
