Lorene Tucker

October 11, 1937 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Lorene Tucker, 79, affectionately known as “Lo” was born October 11, 1937 in Pulaski, Illinois to the Late Leroy Turner and Margaret Leadbetter. She attended Bannaker Elementary School and Douglas High School. In 1949, she joined the Church of God In Christ under Elder Cobbs .

Her Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 12:00pm at Pentecostal Apostolic Faith Peace Temple, 686 Territorial, Benton Harbor, MI. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service at the church. Rev. R.C. Gulley will officiate.

On December 5, 1955 she married the late Curtis E. Tucker, Jr. Later she relocated to Benton Harbor from Joliet, IL where she resided for over 43 years. She worked at Rosey’s Fish House throughout the 1990’s until their closing. With all her good cooking she became the famous “Fish Lady” in the Benton Harbor community.

In 2003, she became a dedicated member of New Covenant Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.C. Gulley and immediately got to work wherever her hands could find to do. She was Chairman of the Mothers Board, assisted with fundraisers at the church as well as showing off her culinary skills in the kitchen. She loved her Pastor, the word of God, and was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee where she served diligently. Lorene greatly enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations.  Her life’s goal was to be remembered as a good mother who earned her children and grandchildren respect, love and lead them in the right direction and set a good example for them all.

On September 9, 2017, Lorene quietly passed away with her family by her side at Lakeland Healthcare in St. Joseph, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kera Cooper; four sisters, Gladys Cook, Mamie Ellison, Catherine Triplett, Jernice Turner and one brother, Kenneth Caldwell Turner.
