Howard Lenull Burnside, 91, of Benton Harbor passed away Monday June 19, 2017 at his home. A celebration of his life service will be held Thursday June 29, 2017 at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Drive, Benton Harbor beginning with a viewing at 10 a.m. and the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery.

Howard was born May 12, 1926 in Cherry Valley, Arkansas to Polly Cerell and William Burnside.

Howard honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and Navy and was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 410 and a retiree of Auto Specialties.

He is survived by three children Hayward Burnside of Benton Harbor, Doris Hureskin of Detroit and Darlene Barnes of Riverdale, Georgia and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren  and a host of nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Celestine Marie and one son Edward Burnside.

He was the last surviving child of his parents’ children: Vernoia Bell, Cerell Calhoun, Lilli Dell and brothers Dennis, Robert and Raymond Burnside.
