Anna Scates transitioned on February 10, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Legacy farewell service will be held on February 16, 2018 at Union Memorial AME, 911 S Crystal, Benton Harbor, MI 49022, with visitation starting at 10:00 am and services beginning at 11:00 am.
Anna Louise Scates, was born May 17, 1952 to the late Reull Scates Garland and Geneva Young in Sikeston, MO. Anna moved to Benton Harbor with her family at an early age. The eldest of five children, Anna often took care of her younger siblings and learned strength early on. She was raised in the church and received Christ at an early age and continued her love for Jesus all her days in passing under the leadership of Pastor Calvin McCoy of Old Landmark Church of God in Christ. Anna was a licensed CNA and home health care nurse. She loved taking care of the elderly. She absolutely loved rummage sales. She also enjoyed visiting with family and cooking. Anna will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, family, and friend.
Anna leaves to cherish her loving memories; four sons and one daughter. Kevin (Tammy) Scates, Roshonda Scates, Cerrone Fox, Rufus (Tonya) Fox, Antoine fox all of Benton Harbor MI. One grandson that she raised as her own, Kevin Scates Jr. of South Dakota. Two sisters, Brenda Scates of Benton Harbor MI., and Carmen Lucas of Chicago IL. A goddaughter, Shani Petty of Danville IL. Two nieces, Latesea Scates and Terry Johnson, both of Grand Rapids MI. One nephew, Anthony Johnson of Grand rapids, MI. Uncles; Alexander Young of Benton Harbor MI, Paul Scates of Chicago IL., Aunts; Maggie Hill of Chicago IL., Ann Louise Spellman of Atlanta GA., and Ethel Young of Benton Harbor MI, 14 Grandchildren 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins and friends.
Both parents preceded her in death, as well as two siblings, Cherly Ann Scates Caston of Grand Rapids MI., and Loretta Scates Johnson of Benton Harbor MI.
